Marko Arnautovic's work day lasted less than half an hour Tuesday as the Austrian complained about calf pain and needed to break off the morning training after about 30 minutes. "He has slight shin and calf bruising," said assistant coach Wolfgang Rolff after the day's afternoon training session. But the Austrian striker should be able to play in Werder's next game.

While Arnautovic was on his way to the doctor, Petri Pasanen and Tim Borowski both trained again with the team. The Finn Pasanen had missed training Monday after picking up a dead leg. Borowski missed the final training before the Hoffenheim game injured but he looked "on a good way" after the Tuesday session after a strong training, leaving head coach Thomas Schaaf another alternative for the game against Bayern Munich.

It remains yet unclear if Dominik Schmidt can be a part of the roster on the weekend. "We will certainly see by Thursday if it's okay for the Bayern match or not," said the 23-year-old Schmidt.

Four players from the professional squad have their next competitive match tonight as Werder's U23 team takes on RW Ahlen at the Platz 11 grounds at 7 p.m. Felix Kroos, Onur Ayik, Sandro Wagner and new winter acquisition Denni Avdic will "get a good chance to gather some extra game practice," said assistant coach Wolfgang Rolff. "The team is motivated and has trained well." Missing from the training grounds in the morning was Aaron Hunt due to a gastro-intestinal infection. Rolff said the team will have to wait and see if Hunt is fit again for Wednesday training.
