Tim Borowski has been to Norderney a couple times in his career for the pre-season. Still, there were a couple firsts for him this year too. "I don't even know exactly how often I have been here - five, six or seven times. But this year there are a few things which are different than before," said Boro. Werder are not staying at the Golfhotel but instead at the beachside hotel Georgshöhe. In addition, without Mikael Silvestre around, Borowski is currently the only player on the squad.
"It is important that we have many of our young players from our own youth teams with us and it's a lot of fun working together with them," said the Brandenburg native, who expects "an interesting and important" season. Borowski said the new players will also help in the team's success. "All of them have integrated themselves superbly and really fit in excellently," said the midfielder about the reinforcements. Personally, Boro has some high expectations for this season. "I would like to make it through the season better than last season. Then I can also give the team the support which it needs from me," said Borowski.
The second half of last season showed how important Borowski's presence is. "In the decisive and difficult stage I was able to help the team. That did me good personally. I would like to build upon that." He said it doesn't matter if his position as leader turns into the wearing the captain's armband. "What's important is getting through the pre-season and starting the season successfully," he said. Still, he admitted he would be proud to fulfil the role as captain. "That is certainly the case because I have been with the club a long time," said Borowski. Coming to Norderney next summer as Werder captain would definitely be another premiere for Borowski ...
