Tim Borowski is once again under contract with SV Werder Bremen as the former German international is starting a management apprenticeship as part of an 18-month traineeship program about four months after he retired from the game.

The former midfielder will go through a three-prong traineeship. In addition to his practical work with SV Werder Bremen, he is receiving football theory training from the German Football Federation while there is also a co-operation with a consulting company regarding management know-how. Borowski will spend time in all of the business areas of the Green-Whites with an emphasis in marketing and scouting. Borowski's direct responsible party will be the chairman of the board of directors Klaus Filbry.

"We have trained former players in the sports department a number of times over the years and later profited from that in our coaching staff. Now we want to offer a similar path for players interested in management. The program is tailored for former players like Tim Borowski. We can imagine that it will become a model project which would also be interesting for other former players. The goal is that they are well prepared after their career and this 18-month traineeship to step into mid-level business management," said Filbry, who was one of the initiators of the program. "It's a traineeship which can only be passed with very high motivation. We had some very good experiences in past years with Frank Baumann. I sense the same motivation with Tim Borowski," added Filbry.
Borowski is looking forward to the chance. "There will be a lot of work during this time. We talked a number of times in the last couple of weeks about content and defined the goals. They are very ambitious. But I am happy that Werder is giving me this opportunity," said Borowski.

Borowski stepped away from the game in September 2012 after 236 Bundesliga matches, all of them for the Green-Whites from 2001 to 2012 save for the 2008-09 season with Bayern Munich. Among the top successes for the 32-year-old was the 2003-04 double during which he scored two goals in the German DFB Cup final against Alemannia Aachen. Borowski played 33 times for the German national team and finished third at the 2006 World Cup and was runner-up at the 2008 European Championship.
