Tim Borowski will not be on the Bundesliga roster for Werder Bremen next season. The midfielder and Bremen management agreed to that in a talk a couple of months ago.
And manager Klaus Allofs confirmed that at the press conference on Thursday. "We talked a while ago that Tim will no longer be an active player for us. We will not extend the contract," said Allofs. But that does not mean that Borowski, who has been a Green-White since 1996, does not have a future with Werder. "We have thought about alternatives how ‘Boro' can continue to work with us. And we will talk about concrete options in the summer."
Borowski himself did not completely rule out continuing to play football. "It's just too much fun. But now I have to wait and see how my ankle holds up. I am practicing again with the team and I will sit down with my family and make a decision," said the midfielder.
Borowski has been with Werder Bremen since 1996. It's unclear what kind of farewell he will get on May 5 at Weser Stadium. "Of course it would be a dream if I could accept the flowers in a jersey and not as a spectator," said "Boro". Head coach Thomas Schaaf, as usual, did not want to say if the midfielder will be part of the game squad on the final game day. Borowski only returned to team training on Wednesday after an eight-month injury break. "Tim has not played in a long time. He will definitely not be part of the roster against Wolfsburg. Next week we will see if he is fit enough to help us reach our goals," said the coach.
