Sebastian Boenisch suffered another setback as the 24-year-old fullback, who has been out since a knee operation in late September 2010, was forced to undergo another procedure on the knee on Wednesday 9 March 2011. "During the healing process there was a rare and unexpected complication which required an arthroscopy in the right knee," said Werder team doctor Dr. Götz Dimanski about the surgery, which was done by knee specialist Dr. Ulrich Boenisch in Augsburg.
"Of course this is very difficult for me because I was already thinking about team training," said the Polish international. "But I can't change it. I will not give up and will try to be back on the pitch for Werder as soon as possible," Boenisch said confidently. "The doctors said the operation went well and I should be able to play football soon."
"It's painful for all of us that Sebastian has to undergo an operation and means that he is out for the rest of the season," said manager Klaus Allofs. "That is a tough blow for both Basti and for us. But we will continue to do everything we can that he can get back on his feet as quickly as possible," added a supportive head coach Thomas Schaaf.
