Marco Bode expressed his readiness to Willi Lemke and the Werder Bremen management to take over the chairmanship of the supervisory board from Willi Lemke. Both Lemke and all three managers - Klaus Filbry, Thomas Eichin and Klaus-Dieter Fischer - welcomed the 45-year-old former German international's decision. They consider Bode an optimal occupation of the position. "Marco Bode is an excellent Werder man, an absolutely football expert and is highly regarded throughout Germany as a person and a businessman. We are all very happy that he is taking this step."

About his decision, Bode said: "It's a good point in time to take over more responsibility for Werder and I hope that I can play my part in positioning the club well for the future."

On Tuesday night, Willi Lemke announced that he wanted to give up his leadership role in the supervisory board soon to bring about a generation change. The change of the chairman position and the exact time point of the takeover must be decided at the next meeting of the supervisory board by the six members.

Regarding his future in the supervisory board, Lemke said: "I will give Marco Bode every form of support as a simple member of the body until the end of my term of office in 2016."
