Marco Bode has taken over the position as SV Werder Bremen advisory board chairman from Willi Lemke. The 45-year-old honorary captain and SV Werder's all-time leading scorer was elected into the position at Saturday's advisory board meeting by the members of the board. Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald was confirmed as the board's deputy chairman while Lemke steps down to a simple member of the advisory board.
The United Nations Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace and WERDER BEWEGT ambassador Lemke, who has been part of the board since its foundation in 1999, announced a week and a half ago his willingness to give up his leadership role in the advisory board in the near future to bring about a generational change.
After the meeting, Bode said: "I am thankful for the trust from my fellow advisory board members. I am certain that this is the best constellation for us to make an impact for SV Werder. The most important thing is to continue the Werder way, which was built on cohesiveness and constructive work."
Bode has been a member of the six-member advisory board for two years after being elected at the member assembly on 5 November 2012 for four years along with Lemke, Hans Schulz and Dr. Werner Brinker. Hess Grunewald and Axel Plaat were dispatched to the board by the SV "Werder" v. 1899 e.V. The current term of office will run until the next member assembly at the end of 2016.
