SV Werder Bremen have ended their training camp in Belek and are travelling back to Bremen. After a week of intensive training in Turkey, the Werder group is flying back to Bremen from Antalya on Saturday 12 January 2013 at 11 a.m. Turkish time (10 a.m. in Bremen).
Head coach Thomas Schaaf believes the time in Belek was positive. "Once again this year, we had good conditions, had a very good hotel and good training grounds. Unfortunately we did not have the best weather to work on more tactical elements and take more time to discuss more things on the pitch. It was just too cold for that. But all told, we can be very satisfied with the week," said the coach. "It was important that all the players who were there could work well. The expectations we had of the training camp were fulfilled."
The coach had to like the results of the three matches on Turkish soil, especially looking at the test match history from the 12 years in Belek. "We had good results and are returning home without a defeat - we have never done that in Turkey. We worked well here, had good matches and showed accordingly good performances. It was very important that we proved ourselves in the Tuttur Cup," said Schaaf about the success.
Despite all the positive impressions of the past days, there was also one major aggravation - namely the injury of Philipp Bargfrede, who had to leave training camp on Thursday and underwent knee surgery on Friday. "This situation really aggravates me. It's really too bad for Philipp and we hope that everything goes well and that he returns quickly," said Schaaf.
The Werder players will have Sunday off after their arrival before the next training session on Monday 14 January 2013 at 10 a.m. The fourth and final test match of the preparations will take place later Monday evening as the Green-Whites take on VfL Osnabrück at 6:30 p.m. at osnatel ARENA.
