Werder's director for professional football and scouting Frank Baumann and German basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki together on a football pitch? How does that work? Bremen's former German international has accepted an invitation from the Dallas Mavericks star and German international keeper Manuel Neuer to represent SVW at the team-up for kids charity event on Sunday 23 June 2013 in Würzburg.
The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and Manuel Neuer Kids Foundation pulled out all the punches and will bring together a colourful group of players from the worlds of football and other sports. In addition to Neuer and Nowitzki, German football internationals Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski, former Werder players Frank Baumann and Simon Rolfes as well as beach volleyball Olympic champion Jonas Reckermann and handball national team keeper Carsten Lichtlein will play in the match at Flyeralarm Arena (kick-off at 4 p.m.).
Werder fans interested in attending the match are out of luck as the event has been sold out for weeks. Still, fans do not need to miss Baumann's comeback to football boots as Kabel 1 will broadcast the match live from Würzburg at 3:45 p.m., and a live stream will be offered online at ran.de.
