Werder winger Fin Bartels was back on the pitch after only a couple of days away as the 27-year-old quickly recovered from his right thigh muscle problems. Bartels said he went through Thursday afternoon's team training "without problems".
"Everything is okay again. I needed to sit out two days so nothing worse would happen. That paid off. The injury didn't get any worse and I was able to come back quickly," said Bartels. He will also take part in the public training Friday morning at 10 a.m. Just as in past days, Werder fans are expecting to see a number of young faces in Werder jerseys.
During the national team break, youth players from the U23 and U19 teams will get a chance to showcase themselves in Werder coach Robin Dutt's training. "We reward the young players for their good performances. There's nothing better than a bit of training with the professionals," said Rouven Schröder, director for roster planning and scouting.
Leon Guwara, Maximilian Eggestein and Co. can learn to "prove themselves at a high level and get used to the procedures," said Schröder. And then the club bosses will observe what the individual players do with the experiences they gain once they return to their youth teams. Davie Selke and Marnon Busch, who made the jump to the professional team at the beginning of the season and both have scored a goal in the Bundesliga, are both considered by Schröder as examples of the success of the connection between the performance academy and the professional team.
