Philipp Bargfrede will miss a major portion of the first half of the Bundesliga as the Green-Whites midfielder underwent successful surgery Wednesday afternoon to repair the meniscus in his right knee.
Dr. Ulrich Boenisch from the Hessingparklinik in Augsburg did the procedure. Werder's defensive specialist will now go through three months of rehab work. "Unfortunately it was confirmed what we had feared in the initial examinations on site. The meniscus had to be sewn back up. I feel sorry for Philipp. He left an excellent impression in the first couple days of training," said Werder coach Robin Dutt, who was visibly moved by the news.
Bargfrede injured his knee in the second training session last Saturday at the Platz 10 grounds at Weser Stadium and was no longer able to take part in training.
