For the past week, the professional footballer Philipp Bargfrede has also been papa Philipp Bargfrede! Son Elias was born last Wednesday and just like his grandfather Hansi, the youngest member of the Bargfrede family should also play football one day. It will take more than a few years until the little man laces up his own football boots. It will take considerably less time for papa Bargfrede to get back onto the pitch. The midfielder is getting closer to his comeback after his knee is now stable following an operation in May and two setbacks.
The 25-year-old talked in an interview about his first week as a papa, the next steps for him and what the team must do to win again.
WERDER.DE: The last few weeks were certainly some of the most eventful in your life, no?
Philipp Bargfrede: "You can say that. First my wedding, then the baby. It's really an amazing feeling when you become a father. I was live there when the little man was born last week. Both the mother and son are doing superb."
WERDER.DE: Are you taking these positive events to training as well?
Bargfrede: "Like I already said, I look forward to every time I return home. But here I concentrate fully on Werder and my training. My knee is really good. It's getting better. I have started with running training and have no problems. I didn't have pain before, the problem was only the swelling. I have a very good feeling and hope that it gets going soon."
WERDER.DE: You don't want to give a prognosis when you will be back on the pitch in the Bundesliga ...
Bargfrede: "Of course I would like to come back as quickly as possible but since I've been out so long already, it doesn't make sense to make a prognosis. You need a lot of patience to not do too much and perhaps suffer a setback. I have a good feeling of listening to my body and unfortunately I have a certain level of experience."
WERDER.DE: Is there a match you have chosen by which time you want to be back?
Bargfrede: "I think that for every match. (laughs)"
WERDER.DE: What do you think of the current situation on the pitch?
Bargfrede: "Of course I am comparatively close to the team. I am in the changing room daily. We just have to keep going and do everything we can on Friday. We cannot be too fearful. I hope that the fans continue to stand behind us despite this poor stage and are patient. Especially in the beginning phase, it's important that the team gets support. Then we will show another side and finally bring home the necessary points."
