Bad news for Werder as Philipp Bargfrede injured the medial collateral ligament strain in his left knee and will have to sit out for now. "Philipp will not be able to train for at least two weeks," said head coach Thomas Schaaf on Wednesday.
The midfielder suffered the injury at team training Tuesday afternoon. Bargfrede remained on the pitch in a training game and was holding his knee before continuing on to play.
That means Schaaf will travel to the game in Oldenburg against FC Aberden without Bargfrede. "Aberdeen have another class than our previous test opponents. The club plays in the Scottish league and plays at a high level," said Schaaf. "We are far enough in the preparations that the players can now play longer and I do not have to swap out the entire team at half-time."
The following 18 players travelled to the Oldenburg Marschweg Stadium: Mielitz, Lukimya, Arnautovic, Fritz, Elia, Schmitz, Hunt, Prödl, Junuzovic, Kroos, Wolf, Sokratis, Gebre Selassie, Petersen, Trybull, A. Stevanovic, Trinks, Füllkrug.
