When Philipp Bargfrede's direct volley in the 18th minute sailed into the upper left corner, the Werder midfielder added another example of a continued improvement in his play. Neutral observers could say that Bargfrede seems to have taken off since extending his contract a month ago. But the defensive midfielder played that down. "I am just happy to be back on the pitch after my long injury break. I became more relaxed during the tough injury time off. And I am profiting from that a bit," said Bargfrede.

The 25-year-old missed the first 13 matches of this season with a meniscus injury. And he sat out much of last year as well for the Green-Whites - first with an Achilles tendon problem, then the meniscus. This season he made his comeback against of all teams Hoffenheim on the 14th match day. Werder's number 44 was subbed in after 70 minutes and scored in stoppage time to secure a 4-4 draw, which was a point for the morale of the team and his first ever Bundesliga goal.

Getting too high forbidden!

Bundesliga goal number two followed in the 2-0 win in Nuremberg before pushing his tally to three against Hoffenheim on Saturday. "I saw the goal again in the evening in the highlights. The ball was slightly deflected, I didn't even realise that. But it doesn't matter to me. I am just happy about the three points. They are really important for us. It's important that we have a good buffer to the relegation spots. I don't think much else can happen now," said Bargfrede.

Just like Raphael Wolf, who saved a penalty in the closing minutes, Bargfrede should be included in the "down-to-earth winner" category. "If I have a good game, of course I am happy about that. But that's no reason to get excited now. If it doesn't go well, I try to remain calm. If it does go well, I'm not going to get too high," added Bargfrede.

Bargfrede still has three more games to show off his scoring abilities. Then the 2013-14 season will come to an end. Where will SV Werder and Bargfrede finish after the final match in Leverkusen? "It can't be our goal to finish 15th in the end. We want to go up as high as possible. But we need as many points as possible for that," said Bargfrede.
