Werder midfielder Philipp Bargfrede started the next phase of his rehabilitation on Monday. After injuring the exterior meniscus of his knee on the second day of pre-season training and undergoing surgery by knee specialist Dr. Ulrich Boenisch in Augsburg, Bargfrede has since finished the initial stage for a comeback. "Philipp worked tremendously at the RehaZentrum Bremen," said Werder team doctor Götz Dimanski.
Bargfrede underwent an intermediate examination last Friday by operating doctor Boenisch, leaving hope for a return soon. "I will be back on the pitch in a couple weeks, but I also don't want to rush anything," said Bargfrede, who travelled directly from Augsburg to Chiemsee where his knee will get the fine-tuning. "There is a therapy centre in Traunreut where I can totally focus on the return. Besides, I have also already had very good experience with the therapists from earlier," said Bargfrede.
Bargfrede is not only counting on the know-how of the therapists, who are setting the 24-year-old's program in close collaboration with Dimanski. "After working on your own for so long, a new environment is advantageous. You can also see the mountains when riding the bike and another lake. That sometimes can make a big difference," said Bargfrede.
