The award was undoubtedly highly deserved! For the activity „ALLEz GRÜN", which was called into being to support the team for the home games at the end of the previous season during the relegation battle, Werder picked up the 'Sport Bild' award for the 'Best Fan Activity of the Year'.
At a special gala event, Werder captain Clemens Fritz presented the trophy to Duduhan Dogru from the board of WORUM, an independent fan portal from Werder fans which initiated the events. She accepted the award on behalf of all the Green-Whites involved during the period.
In a statement from ‚Sport Bild' editor Matthias Brügelmann, the reason for the decision was explained: „In a phase during which Werder Bremen slipped into the relegation battle, the Werder fans encouraged the mutual support of the team. They created an absolutely unique atmosphere in the stadium and around the city". In presenting the award, Brügelmann joked: "That's surely the first award a Werder fan ever recieved on a Hamburg stage!"
The initiators of the 'ALLEz GRÜN' events were delighted that their campaign received such attention. Clemens Fritz went on to state: That was incredibly impressive. It was a major topic amongst the team because we could really feel the support throughout the city. That really helped us survive in the top flight".
