After a long injury break, Sebastian Prödl is once again part of the Austrian national team as he was nominated for the Euro2012 qualifiers against Azerbaijan in Baku on Friday (7 October 2011 at 6 p.m.) and four days later against Kazakhstan in Astana (also at 6 p.m.). Also on the Austrian team is Werder teammate Marko Arnautovic. The Austrians have already been eliminated from qualification for next summer's tournament.
Mehmet Ekici meanwhile still has chance to play at Euro2012 and was nominated for Turkey's qualifiers against Germany in Istanbul (7 October 2011) and against Azerbaijan (11 October 2011). In Group F, Sokratis and the Greece national team would like to reclaim first place in the standings and direct qualification for Poland-Ukraine 2012 and take on group leaders Croatia on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in Piraeus. The Greeks then face Georgia on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Claudio Pizarro and Peru begin their World Cup 2014 qualification on Friday, taking on Paraguay in Lima. And then the Werder striker faces Chile in Santiago on Tuesday.
Lennart Thy and Florian Trinks are also on national team duty with the German U20 team and will play Italy on Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in Reutlingen and then square off with Switzerland on Sunday 9 October 2011 in Pfullendorf at 1:10 p.m. In addition, Florian Hartherz was nominated for the German U19 national team's European Championship qualifier while Werder's Serbian Aleksandar Ignjovski was nominated for his nation's U21 national team for their European Championship qualifiers in Macedonia on Friday at 3 p.m. and against Denmark on Tuesday.
