Aleksandar Stevanovic will play this up-coming season for Werder Bremen as Werder manager Klaus Allofs announced an agreement between Schalke and Bremen Wednesday afternoon. The 19-year-old brother of Werder midfielder Predrag Stevanovic, 20, last season played for Schalke's U19 junior team and has signed a professional contract with the Green-Whites until 30 June 2014. "Aleksandar is a very talented player who brought attention to himself with Schalke with good performances. We are convinced that he will take the next step in his career with us," said Allofs.

Stevanovic himself would like to possibly earn a spot on the Green-Whites' Bundesliga roster starting with the beginning of pre-season preparations on 29 June 2011. "I assume that I can showcase myself with appearances in the U23s and hope that I can find my footing quickly like my brother and celebrate my Bundesliga debut. Predrag is the more offensive player among us, I see myself more as a defensive midfielder," said the younger Stevanovic, who still has a knack in front of the goal.

The Essen native last season scored ten goals in 20 appearances for Schalke's U19 side, helping them finish second in the A-Juniors Bundesliga West. Stevanovic started his football career with TuS Essen-West before going through Rot-Weiß Essen on his way to Gelsenkirchen. Last August, the 1.75m, 65kg Stevanovic was invited to the Serbian U19 national team for the first time.
