Werder Bremen played their first test match of the new season Wednesday evening and beat SV Meppen 13-1 in an impressive showing, which included an impressive performance by Marko Arnautovic. The Austrian proved especially hungry for goals, scoring five times. Arnautovic was pleased with the start. "It was a good start. We began very good and lead at half-time 10-1. It was okay that we shut it down a gear in the second half because of the burden. Altogether we can be satisfied with the result and I am as well with my five goals," said the 22-year-old. But he made clear that not everything was okay. "I still made mistakes that I would like to get rid of. But I think that is normal for a training camp," said Arnautovic.
The Green-Whites can just about put a check mark next to their first training camp on Norderney as the team leaves for home Friday afternoon. "Norderney is hard but it did me and the team very good. I feel good and we still have the days in Erfurt and the training camp in Donaueschingen ahead of us. After that we will be fit for the up-coming season," said Arnautovic. "I would still like to do many things better. The past is the past. I am looking at the future and will give my all and try to improve." Arnautovic added that he feels really part of the team: "I have really integrated myself superbly."
