The executive committee of the SV "Werder" von 1899 e.V. on Tuesday agreed to start expulsion proceedings against member Jens Pühse. "We are exercising our statutory right to expulse a member who damages the image of the club, especially those acting in a racist manner. There was no opposition in this matter," said Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald, vice president of SV "Werder" von 1899 e.V.

"It's been Werder who has been a leader for years in the Bundesliga on the issues of anti-discrimination and non-violence. Therefore we wanted to send a clear signal here. It is beyond comprehension for us how Mr. Pühse can bring in line his political disposition with the support for our multi-cultural professional team," said Werder President Klaus-Dieter Fischer, who sees the action as an election orchestration from the right-wing NPD party.

Jens Pühse works in the NPD federal board and is a leading candidate in Bremerhaven as well as a member of the NPD state election campaign. He registered with the Green-Whites ahead of the township vote. He signed his membership application in January 2011. The club executive committee immediately demanded that he voluntarily leave SV Werder. Pühse said he would not voluntarily leave and as part of the expulsion proceedings he asked for a hearing with the club executive board.
