Twelve months have flown by - filled with highs and lows, celebrations and disappointments, departures and returns. 2011 - a year with wonderful moments but also some difficult times between relegation angst and dreams of fall championships. It's not easy to retain an overview of it all. That's why WERDER.DE once again is offering its Green-Whites almanac at year's end. Werder 2011 from A to Z, to remember and smile. Today: Part 2 - D to F:

D – "Danke" to all

They come in wind and rain, go through thick and thin and support the team with encouragement, songs, choreography and many more actions - they are the fans of SV Werder Bremen. Therefore, at least once a year they really deserve a "Dankeschön" of thanks. At the Day of Fans, all of those for whom "Lebenslang Grün-Weiß" ("Life-long Green-White") is more than just a song have the chance to get up close and personal with their idols; watch them at show training; get autographs first hand. The Fans event returned to Weser Stadium in 2011 after the completion of stadium renovations. "The Day of Fans is back to where it belongs," said club president Klaus-Dieter Fischer about the return to the home grounds of SV Werder Bremen.

E – Equal unit

For a football team to have success they don't need only good techniques, tactics and conditioning. They also need team spirit when things don't go so well (see Almanac A-C). When the players came to the training grounds shortly before Easter, they travelled surprisingly to the barracks in Delmenhorst where the players then through a boot camp. In three teams, they went through sand, wormed through lorry tyres and negotiated pits. "Certainly not everyone expected that," said a pleased manager Klaus Allofs. In order to tickle out the last couple percent from the team during the heated final stretch last season, Werder also brought in mental trainer Jörg Löhr. He was impressed with the team, saying: "I sense the will to go over their borders." Werder also took extraordinary measures in the preparation for the next season, for example with a vision test for the players. And the measures appear to have paid off. In the first round of the 2011-12 season, Thomas Schaaf's team appeared to have more perspective. But there was definitely a single entity on the pitch.

F – Fun with the camera

The separation of roles is clear: on the pitch the football stars provide the entertainment while the photographers gathered alongside the side of the pitch capture the best actions in pictures. During Werder's 5-3 victory over Freiburg, Wesley passed over this border, making himself noticed as a star in two areas. First he scored the final goal shortly before the end of the game, then he snagged a camera from one of the photographers and took some pictures. The results of the pictures were not bad with teammate Marko Arnautovic celebrating with Werder fans. "I always wanted to have a picture with the fans," admitted the grinning Austrian afterwards.

The Brazilian Wesley was not the only Werder player to get noticed with a goal celebration this year. After scoring his first goal at Weser Stadium to make it 1-1 against Gladbach, Sandro Wagner celebrated with his "sucking robot" act. First, Sandro was greeting his daughter Luca-Marie with his thumb in his mouth then he played like a robot with stilted movements.
