On Friday, 22 June 2012 the German national team faces off against Greece in the quarter-finals of the 2012 European Championship in Poland and Ukraine. After not losing a point in the group stage, the Germans hope Greece is only a bump in the road on their way to the final.
"In my eyes, the German national team has done everything that I expected," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs about the Germans after the first round. "The team was strong in qualifying and altogether were dominating in every Euro game, even though the last game was a bit exciting at the end." Despite the superb first round, the Werder boss is certain that "some players can play even better. That will show itself over the course of the tournament."
From Werder's point of view, the game will be an interesting one as Green-Whites defender Sokratis is playing for the Greeks. And Allofs has been impressed with his centre back. "He has presented himself at the Euro just like he played throughout the Bundesliga - as a defender who makes no compromises and has the unending will to win every challenge and every game. We are happy that he is having good performances."
Despite the good showing of Sokratis and co., Allofs is certain that the Germans will be the "final stop" for the Greeks. "The Greeks definitely can defend their goal very well and are therefore a very uncomfortable task. But the German team has more possibilities, are more evenly manned and can play faster. I believe Germany will become European champions," said Allofs.
