Joseph Akpala will be sent on loan from SV Werder Bremen to the Turkish first division side Kardemir D. C. Karabükspor until the end of the season. The Turkish club does not have a buy-out option.
Werder manager Thomas Eichin confirmed the move in the afternoon. "Joseph Akpala has very good quality but has not yet been able to really stand out with us. He now has the opportunity in Turkey to get the confidence a striker needs," said Eichin, who was not interested in selling the player.
Akpala was already in Turkey on Sunday for negotiations and complete a physical. The Nigerian international is eligible to play for Karabükspor with immediate effect. The 27-year-old was still allowed to transfer on Tuesday because the transfer window was still open in Turkey until 4 September 2013.
The Nigerian international transferred last year to Werder from Brugge and signed a four-year contract with the Green-Whites. He appeared in 21 matches during the 2012-13 season and scored one goal.
