It took a moment for Alejandro Gálvez to realise what he had done in the 59th minute on Saturday. With his score against Hoffenheim, the 25-year-old not only scored the extremely important equaliser but the Spaniard also tallied his first goal for SV Werder.

Seconds after the ball was in the back of the net, Gálvez hoisted his arms to the heavens and ran directly to the East Curve, where his brother and his girlfriend were in the front row. "I dedicated the goal to him and the family," said Gálvez, who has not really celebrated that many goals in his career. In 66 matches in the Spanish Primera Division, Gálvez only scored four goals.

“We don’t have this atmosphere in Spain!”

Gálvez didn't just arrive for good in Bremen with his fine volley goal. The defender also moved into his new apartment on Monday. "I feel really at home already in Bremen and am happy to no longer live in the hotel. I like the feel of the city," said Gálvez. What about the rainy summer in Bremen compared to the sun in Andalusia? Not a problem for the 25-year-old. "Back home it's well over 30 degrees right now. I don't need that at all. Just the opposite. I would rather walk around the city when it's 20 degrees," said Gálvez.

The new acquisition clung more to the South American fraction of Garcia and Di Santo directly after his move from southern Spain to cool northern Germany. But Gálvez is getting more and more used to the German mentality. "I really like the fans," he said. "It was an impressive feeling on Saturday. The East Curve was loud throughout the whole game. We don't have that in Spain. There might be maybe 20,000 fans in the stadium but they don't really create nearly as good an atmosphere."

The defender paid them back with his first Bundesliga goal. And even though it wasn't enough for a victory, the fans were thrilled about the Spaniard and are paying him back as well. In the vote for Player of the 2nd Match Day, Gálvez is currently in first place.
