The capacity of Weser Stadium will be over 40,000 seats for the first time since construction began on the east grandstands for the Bundesliga game Saturday 29 January 2011 between Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich. Bremen media director Tino Polster announced that at Thursday's press conference ahead of the North-South showdown. With the opening of the upper level of the renovated east grandstands the Weser Stadium capacity for the weekend will be 40,500 and the game is sold out.

The full capacity of the stadium however is still not possible. "Due to the on-going construction at the stadium the building authorities will not allow a full capacity," said Polster.
