Three match days before the end of the season, SV Werder have 36 points in 11th place. While the Green-Whites still have two big-time away matches in Munich and Leverkusen (on either side of a home game against Hertha Berlin), they don't need to worry any more about direct relegation. Still, the team doesn't want to rest on their laurels and would like to climb up the table.
It was clear at Tuesday afternoon training that head coach Robin Dutt is following that game plan as well. The Werder boss worked his players for nearly two hours in optimal outdoor conditions. The focus of the session was diverse game formations on offence. After the players spent the morning training in the weight room, things were quite heated in the afternoon before the team was given the day off on Wednesday.
While his teammates went all out at training, Philipp Bargfrede sat out of the workouts again just like Easter Sunday. Luckily it was just a precautionary measure for Werder's No. 44. "I received a knock in the challenge with Clemens (Fritz) on Saturday. But it's nothing bad. I think that I can return on Thursday," said Bargfrede.
There was better news for Levent Aycicek. After missing last week due to a bruised right foot, the 20-year-old worked out individually again on Tuesday with athletics coach Reinhard Schnittker. It remains to be seen if Aycicek will be fit in time for the weekend. "It's getting better every day. I hope that I am ready to play again on the weekend," said the striker.
