Werder would probably have imagined the end to their year differently and after the win against Gladbach, it would have been nice to get a win against Eintracht in the last game before the winter break. It was, however, a loss for Bremen as they surrendered their lead to Frankfurt, who won 2-1.

Werder.de collected the thoughts of staff and players alike.

On the game:

Thomas Eichin: "It was an unnecessary win. We came into the game on a high from the Gladbach game and needed to stay in front for longer. After going 2-1 down we struggled to keep it going."

Viktor Skripnik: "I'm sorry for the fans that we lost. We didn't hide and were going for a result like on Tuesday night. It's a shame that it came down to an individual mistake. We lost an important game today, but it wasn't a decider of any sort."

Jannik Vestergaard: "The loss hurts. It was all going to plan but then we conceded the equaliser. The second goal was a succer-punch."

Anthony Ujah: "Unfortunately we weren't able to defend the lead for longer. It was difficult after they equalised so quickly and then we couldn't get back into it after the goal early in the second half."

Rouven Schröder: "We made too many mistakes in our build-up play. They deserved the win because they had so many chances. We could've lost by even more."

Felix Wiedwald: "We started well be we conceded straight after we went 1-0 up. That was hard to take. Then another one at the beginning of the second half. I think that both teams put a lot in but we neither were very effective up front. The loss is a sore one and Frankfurt have now overtaken us in the table."

Clemens Fritz: "We combined well in the first half and were looking dangerous. We weren't passing well enough and started using long balls. We then lost our shape and so we are to blame for the result."

Concluding the first half of the season:

Jannik Vestergaard: "A difficult second half awaits. We will have to treat every game as if it is our last. Last year we were in a similar situation and ended up fighting for Europa League. Anything is still possible but we must improve. I have faith in the boys and believe that we can get ourselves out of this situation."

Thomas Eichin: "I have too few points going into the winter break. Even if we had 17, 18 or 19 it wouldn't be a good situation to be in. It's similar to last season. We must stay calm, stay strong, work hard, cut out the mistakes and get ready for the second half of the season. We must keep our heads up concentrate from the very first game after Christmas."

Claudio Pizarro: "We are in a difficult position, felt by the team, fans and city. We will have to just stay calm and keep working at it. We know we can do better in the second half of the season. We now have holidays to regain energy, clear our heads and then we will begin to prepare for January."

Clemens Fritz: "We will take this result into the winter break with us. None of us are happy with the loss. We have quite a young team and it is important to learn from our mistakes. We will analyse the season so far, be critical of it and then step our game up.

Rouven Schröder: "It's nice that we're still in the cup, but that's the best thing about this season given our league situation. We need to work."

Viktor Skripnik: "We just have too few points. I am not happy that it's now the winter break. Ideally we would keep working straight away. I am impatient and want results. The team are frustrated, but it is now important that we stay optimistic. We have not yet been involved in a relegation battle."

The mistake that cost the goal:

Thomas Eichin: "That was the turning point. Grillitsch made a mistake that you can't make in that position. But he is a young player, he will learn."

Felix Wiedwald: "We were stuck in our own box and tried to play our way out of the situation. You have to clear there to get rid of the danger. I was emotional at the time, but have since apologised to Flo."

Viktor Skripnik: "Flo is sorry about the mistake himself. But he has already played in a lot of big games for us. The mistake is annoying but that is the nature of football. The reaction from Wiedwald was emotional, it cut him deep. That's the way a keeper has to be and in the dressing room they are best friends again."
