A ligament tear, whilst not particularly long-term and severe, is nonetheless incredibly frustrating. Luca Zander's injury is already behind him and no longer worth labouring over. "Injuries like that are part and parcel of the game. You just have to deal with it. They don't keep you out for that long," said the 20-year-old. He sustained the ligament tear three weeks ago, but is now back in training.
"I've slowly completed a recovery program and I'm back to full fitness. I have no issues with the ligament anymore," said Zander. The time out hasn't impacted him that much, even though he made his Bundesliga debut shortly beforehand and was a consistent figure in the first-team squad. "It helped to know from the very start exactly what the problem was and how long it would take to come back. It gives you a goal to aim for," the young right back explained. He has suffered from recurring knee problems, but he's not looking back on the now healed ligament injury. "I'm very optimistic and ready to get going again."
There is, however, a full back at Werder who will be taking this week off. Santiago Garcia, who was included in the squad for the Augsburg game shortly after his calf problems, is taking it, in his own words, "somewhat more calmly. I felt something in the last few minutes of the game and I've been to see a doctor again. It's nothing too serious - I'm resting now and I'll be back in training on Monday," said the Argentine defender.
