Werder left the field empty handed despite an enthusiastic performance and a spirited effort. The busy week came to an end against the league's second-placed side, who left Bremen with a 3-1 win. "The goals we conceded were too easy. We can't let that happen to us. It's a shame as we didn't play badly," Theodor Gebre Selassie lamented after the game.
When the Green-Whites analysed the game, they saw the "key turning point" as the goal just before half time. "It meant we lacked the necessary courage in the second half. We were a bit worried that we'd lose by more which meant we didn't play so aggressively," said Thomas Eichin.
WERDER.DE has put together the post-match reaction from the mixed zone.

On the game:
Jannik Vestergaard: "It's a shame when you feel like you gave your all but leave empty handed. We need to accept that our opponents were better than us. Games against Dortmund aren't the ones we need to be picking up points from, so we take a few positives from this, namely the strong team performance."
Felix Wiedwald: "We played very well but conceded some unlucky goals. It's hard to prevent chances against a team like Dortmund. In the end, we need to be pleased that it was just 3-1."
Thomas Eichin: "We had a plan that was tactically very astute and we carried it out well. In the first half we offered some courageous resistance, neutralised Dortmund and got our reward with the equaliser. Unfortunately, because of the goal just before the break we lacked a lot in the second half, mentally and physically. Dortmund became stronger and more assured on the ball, and in the end they deserved to win."
Florian Grillitsch: "We were compact in the first half, and used our chance. Their second goal was due to lack of concentration and can't happen. We were determined to turn it around in the second half, but in hindsight that goal was the decider."

Viktor Skripnik: "Small things didn't go our way and we weren't very fresh. The mid-week game will have taken it out of us, which became clear at the end. We did well for a long time, but even in those periods Dortmund created 5-6 good opportunities."
Clemens Fritz: "Defeats are always hard to take and frustrate us. We gave our all today. The early goal was not in the script but we grew in confidence as the game went on and gave Dortmund a few problems. We would have deserved the equalizer at that point."
On the equaliser:
Florian Grillitsch: "I saw Fin and shouted for the ball. Hummels reached me by the time I had shot and I couldn't get the power I wanted. Luckily Tony was there to put it in."
Viktor Skripnik: "I liked the goal, we were very pleased. It was no accident; it was well executed from the beginning to the end. Unfortunately we left with no points."
Anthony Ujah: "It is always good for a striker to score. Unfortunately the goal didn't get us any points."

On Dortmund's second goal:
Anthony Ujah: "We didn't play badly today, but Dortmund's quality made the difference. The second goal wasn't good for us, it would have gone very differently for us if we had gone into the second half level."
Jannik Vestergaard: "Conceding so soon before the break is very frustrating. Dortmund took the free kick very quickly so we lost our concentration for a brief moment. You can't give away goals like that against teams like Dortmund."
Clemens Fritz: "The second goal was tough to take, be we fell asleep. Acting quickly is a quality and BVB have it in abundance."
On the consequences of the defeat:
Clemens Fritz: "Dortmund are a team that we like to compete with, but we can't measure ourselves against them. Because of that we can go into next week with a positive outlook. We're on the right track. We need to continue that and keep our heads up. We know we have to always give 100%."
Thomas Eichin: "The bottom line is that despite good tactics and performances, we took zero points from Bayern and Dortmund. We'll take the positives, but now we need to get some points against Augsburg. On current form that is very possible."
Felix Wiedwald: "This defeat won't set us back. We have won two games and Dortmund are hardly nailed on wins. I think we all know how to interpret this result."
