Anthony Ujah's story is one which can only be written in the world of football. After scoring two goals against Mainz at the weekend, the 24-year-old international stole the show on Wednesday night against Köln. It was his second clash with a former club in the space of four day: Both times Werder won, and both times Ujah made his mark on the game with an outstanding finish to open the scoring.

For the man of the hour, however, it was not an easy night. "It was a difficult game for me and a strange feeling to come up against Köln. I'd been thinking about it every day since the Mainz game. Maybe I had thought and worried a bit too much," said Ujah. The goal took a huge weight off his shoulders. "I'm very happy about my first goal at home. I did find it difficult not to celebrate," he admitted.

Nevertheless, despite the joy of seeing the back of the net bulging, Ujah contained himself. "I contained myself out of respect to the Köln fans and the club," explained the forward. "I'm sorry for the Köln fans, but I'm a Werder Bremen player now and have to give everything for this club. Scoring goals is my job, that's how it is in football."

His fine strike was the winner for the Green Whites last night and he understandably received great praise for his efforts. "He went through a phase of not scoring, but he had nothing to prove to us. Today he's won us another game with an outstanding goal," said Skripnik. At the end of the day, it was a win, another Ujah goal and a more than happy hero: "It's so good to be in the next round. Today was my day."
