Cup, floodlights, football and a win at last in front of our own fans. "It doesn't get much better than that. It was a great game and an enormously important win," said Fin Bartels after the final whistle. Just as with Anthony Ujah's deciding goal, for which Bartels provided the assist, the joy was clear to see on the faces of Werder's players as they recorded their first home win of the season. "It was just what the doctor ordered," Viktor Skripnik rejoiced.
WERDER.DE has put together the post-match reaction.
On the match:
Viktor Skripnik: "The coaching team, the squad, the fans and the entire stadium wanted us to come through. We achieved that and kept a clean sheet, not just because we have a great goalkeeper, but because the whole team worked hard behind the ball. We're very pleased about that."

Philipp Bargfrede: "We were very good in defence today. Köln had to give everything in the end, but we withstood them as a team."
Thomas Eichin: "We wanted to give our fans a win today, so I'm pleased, but we didn't do everything correctly. We need to look at these mistakes ahead of the game on Saturday."
Alejandro Gálvez: "We wanted to progress to the next round at any cost, which we've managed, so we're all happy. It's a great feeling to win in front of your own fans and go through to the next round. Now we want to replicate this in the league."
On Ujah's winning goal:
Fin Bartels: "We handled things well today. Tony's movement for his goal was reminiscent of Gerd Müller. He was a legend, but Tony is still young."
Anthony Ujah: "It was a great pass from Fin. My first touch was very important to put me in the right position. I think the finish was alright and that I did everything correctly."

On the ideal draw for the round of 16:
Viktor Skripnik: "We want to stay in this competition for as long as possible to make the next steps forward, so we're obviously content with the win. We'd obviously have an advantage with another home game, but you can't control the draw. It'd be nice to get another Bundesliga side."
Anthony Ujah: "Anyone except Bayern."
Christian Vander: "I'd obviously like to meet my ex-team VfL Bochum."
Clemens Fritz: "If you saw the atmosphere today, you'll understand that we'd fancy ourselves against anyone at home."
Thomas Eichin: "The best case scenario would be a home game against another Bundesliga side. I'm excited to see what the draw gives us."

Thoughts on the weekend's game:
Fin Bartels: "We can enjoy tonight but we go again this weekend in the league. Dortmund are riding on a bit of a wave, and are very dangerous going forward. It will be a difficult game, but we are very solid at the back at the moment. This will certainly be helpful against Dortmund."
Anthony Ujah: "The last two-game week didn't go well for us, but now we have won two out of three games. I hope that this run continues."
Viktor Skripnik: "Saturday will certainly not be easier. We have to be equally focused. The 4-1-4-1 system is working very well for us at the moment. We have deserved the last two wins, but you can never rely on one system, and we will have to think of an alternative. We will see what formation I choose against Dortmund."
