After catching a cold on his travels with the Denmark national side last week, Jannik Vestergaard's international duty was cut short as he was forced to return to Bremen. The defensive leader has been out of training since Thursday and missed the home game against the record champions from Munich. After a day off from training on Monday, the centre back returned to training with his Green-White teammates and is ready to support the players from the back again against Mainz come the weekend. Captain Clemens Fritz on the other hand had to sit out of training on Tuesday morning and trained individually.
Vestergaard missed out on making an appearance in the home game against Bayern München as the boss decided to rest him in order to let him recover fully from his cold. Now the big man at the back is all better and is back on the pitch with his teammates. "I'm not ill anymore, I was able to participate and keep up with all the drills and exercises in training and by the weekend I should be feeling 100 percent again," the 23-year-old told WERDER.DE.
In his 250th appearance for the Green-Whites on Saturday against Bayern, Clemens Fritz was forced off in the 78th minute with a thigh injury and as a result was training individually this Tuesday morning. The captain will also be sitting out of this afternoon's session, but is expected to return in the next few days. There are no doubts among medical staff that he will be fit to face Mainz on Saturday, 24th October, kick-off: 15:30 CEST.
