The wait for his competitive international debut for Denmark goes on for Werder defender Jannik Vestergaard. The 23-year-old got his first call-up for a competitive international from manager Morten Olsen. The Green-Whites' defensive specialist did not however make an appearance in the European Championship qualifier against Portugal. Denmark narrowly lost 1-0 to Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Co. The winner was scored by Joao Moutinho of AS Monaco in the 66th minute. On Sunday, the 11th October at 20:45 CEST the Danes will face France in a friendly in Copenhagen.

Qualification for the World Cup 2018 in Russia began in South America yesterday. In the first round of games, Werder forward Claudio Pizarro's Peru side entertained Colombia. The 37-year-old was in the starting XI and led the team out as captain. Peru lost 2-0 with Teofilo Gutierrez of Sporting Lisbon opening the scoring in the 36th minute and Edwin Cardona of CF Monterry killing the game in stoppage time. Pizarro was taken off after 74 minutes. On Wednesday, 14th October 04:15 (CEST) Peru will play their next qualifier against Chile.

Ulisses Garcia was in action for Switzerland's U21s in their qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Manager Heinz Moser's side won 3-1 in Biel. With the score at 2-0, Uli was brought on as a substitute to replace Celtic's Saidy Janko at left mid. After two wins in two, the Swiss now turn their attention to Monday's game against Norway.
