Immediately after the final whistle, the frustration of the players and coaching staff was clear to see. "Obviously it's frustrating to concede a goal in added time. We're incredibly disappointed," captain Clemens Fritz explained. Thomas Eichin also gave us a summary of the mood in the changing room. "Naturally we're all quite bitter," said the general manager.

Werder won in dramatic style in Hoffenheim with goals in injury time, but now it's Vestergaard, Ujah and Co.'s turn to experience the pain of going down to a late winner. "In the same way that we enjoyed the success last week, we now need to deal with this bitter defeat," Eichin emphasised. For him and for Skripnik, it is a case of dusting themselves off and using the disappointment from this defeat to propel them to victory over Darmstadt on Tuesday.

From the penalty decision to the late red card to the Darmstadt game - WERDER.DE has all the reactions from those involved.

On the match:

Thomas Eichin: "Ingolstadt were defensively and tactically very smart. We had enough chances but we just couldn't get the goals. The loss was a kick in the teeth, but we now know where we stand."

Clemens Fritz: "It wasn't our best game and it wasn't great for the fans to watch. We lacked the fight we've had for the last few weeks, but in comparison, Ingolstadt achieved what they intended to do. They kept raising the tempo and cutting up counter attacks with clever fouls, and in doing so destroyed the rhythm of the game. We knew what to expect and that it would be a tough game, but we allowed ourselves to be knocked off course. At no point did you ever have the feeling that they'd take the three points but in the end they managed it. Only we are at fault for that."

Felix Wiedwald: "We prepared well for this and we obviously wanted to take something away from it. Nobody would have complained if this game had ended a draw. The disappointment in the squad after this defeat is huge."

Viktor Skripnik: "We won our last match in injury time; today we lost in injury time. It's gutting, but that's football for you. Ingolstadt have played well in their last few games, and today we weren't clever enough when it came to putting on the finishing touches. We lacked penetration and our body language was poor."

On the penalty:
Felix Wiedwald: "It happened so quickly, so it's really difficult to assess the situation. I think everyone is feeling down. No individual is responsible; we lost as a team today. We will have to go and analyse the game together first."

Thomas Eichin: "It was clearly a penalty. Luki knows that he shouldn't leave his hand out there. That happens as a defender and it obviously shouldn't happen. We win together and lose together. Nobody is blaming him."

Viktor Skripnik: "We should never be giving that penalty away. Unfortunately we did and we have to accept that. I am sure he isn't pleased with himself. He has done plenty of good things for us. We win as a team and lose as a team."

On Bargfrede's red card:

Clemens Fritz: "It hurts us that he will miss the next game. He always wants to win the ball, but that tackle was clearly also out of frustration."

Felix Wiedwald: "To be without him now is obviously very frustrating. He is a very important player for us and we hope that he won't be suspended too long."

Viktor Skripnik: "The tackle was unnecessary. You saw today how much it affects the team when such a key player is missing."

On the match against Darmstadt on Tuesday

Thomas Eichin: "Thank God that we're playing again on Wednesday. It will definitely be a similar game to today. Darmstadt lost and will definitely want to win in front of their home fans. Just like every game in the Bundesliga, this game will be decided by the finer moments."

Felix Wiedwald: "Last week we won the game in injury time, this week we lost it in injury time. That's football. We can't let our heads drop, as we need to concentrate on our next game against Darmstadt."
