+++ Award for Junuzovic: Werder's midfielder Zlatko Junuzovic has been named "Austria's foreign-based footballer of the year". The 27-year-old could not be present at the 19th Bruno Gala at the Wiener Rathaus for the ceremony because he was with his teammates celebrating Werder's win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Junuzovic appeared pleased in a pre-recorded acceptance speech, which had been arranged because of the clash with the Werder game. "I am proud to receive this award. I see it as confirmation of the good things I've done, even in a difficult season." Junuzovic was handed the award by Dr. Rudolf Nowotny. It is the third Bruno Award for Werder's number 16. In 2010 he won the award for "Performer of the season", and one year later he was voted "Player of the season". +++

+++ Warm down without international players: The Werder players had a light training session on the day after the 2-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. The warm down took place under sunny skies at the training ground by the Weser, but the Green-Whites were without players called up for their national sides. Zlatko Junuzovic, Theodor Gebre Selassie, Anthony Ujah, Aron Jóhannsson, Ulisses Garcia and Florian Grillitsch were all absent from the session as they were on their way to meet up with their respective national teams. +++

+++ One Garcia, two Garcia: Head coach Viktor Skripnik caused a bit of a surprise by starting both Ulysses and Santiago Garcia in the starting XI against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Santiago was making his comeback from a long-term injury lay-off. "We knew that Gladbach have a lot of quality on the wings, so we wanted some extra protection there. Santi trained very well this week and showed that he's ready, and whoever has seen Ulli in our first few games knows that he's very strong going forward but possibly can get caught out in defence. With Santi behind him he had some extra protection," said Skripnik of the talented pair. +++

+++ Vestergaard named Man of the Match: He threw himself into every challenge at the back, and he also popped up at the other end of the field to score the winner against Borussia Mönchengladbach - Jannik Vestergaard had a great game. The 23-year-old was voted Man of the Match by 49% of Werder fans on Facebook, ahead of his teammates Anthony Ujah and Aron Johannsson. +++
