Ujah with a man of the match performance: Striker Anthony Ujah scored his first Bundesliga goal in an SVW kit, after equalising for Werder against Hertha BSC. He was later voted as Volkswagen man of the match on the official Facebook page, an award which he thoroughly deserved. The Nigeria international finished above Assani Lukimya and Philipp Bargfrede, who drew the second and third amount of votes respectively.

Jóhannsson given send off: Werder's new signing Aron Jóhannsson was named in the starting XI on his Bundesliga debut for the match against Hertha BSC. On his day off on Sunday, the USA international went back to AZ Alkmaar to say a proper goodbye to his former teammates and colleagues. Jóhannsson was presented with a bouquet and a photo collage by Alkmaar sporting director Earnest Stewart and chairman Robert Eenhoorn before kick off. They could have done with him on the pitch too, as the Eredivsie game against Willem II ended 0-0. Jóhannsson later took to Instagram to thank the club, saying "I had a lot of great memories over the last couple of years!! Thanks to everybody at Alkmaar for a great time and helping me develop as a player."
