Werder are off the mark with their first point of the season, following a gritty, determined performance in Berlin. Fritz, Junuzovic and Co. went behind early on against a defensive minded Hertha side, but bounced back well following Anthony Ujah's first league goal for the club. The hosts had chances to win it, but so did Werder, hitting the woodwork twice in the space of 88 seconds. In the end the 1-1 draw was a fair result.
WERDER.DE have rounded up all the important quotes following the hard-fought draw in Berlin.
On the game:
Zlatko Junuzovic: "We were too passive for their goal. We tried to vary things up a little afterwards, even by switching positions, and then things started to go better for us. We started poorly in both halves. Thank god we weren't punished again in the second. We were better, but Hertha made things very tight with their deep-set defence and we were unable to create many chances. In general we need to finish more chances. We were unlucky that nobody was able to attack the rebound after the first shot hit the crossbar; I thought the second one was in from where I was standing. In the end we just couldn't find the winner."

Clemens Fritz: "We made things very difficult at the start. The equaliser was very good for us and we got a grip on the game after that. It was a fairly even game, especially in the second half. It was quite end-to-end and both teams played for the win. The two chances off the woodwork were unlucky, but in the end the point was fair. It's a step in the right direction."
Anthony Ujah: "We were better today than against Schalke, we were more aggressive and our reaction showed that we wanted all three points. Obviously the early goal was annoying, a real shame, but the crucial thing was that we showed character and performed well. Everyone fought hard and gave everything. It was definitely a deserved point."
Viktor Skripnik: "The team showed a good reaction from last week's disappointment. They fought well and created chances. I'm happy with that. Both teams played for the win today, therefore a point is fair."
On Maximilian Eggestein:
Zlatko Junuzovic: "Maxi did well for an 18-year-old. He is calm on the ball, in time the chances will come."
Viktor Skripnik: "Maxi played all pre-season and in the cup as well. He had a break last week and today played a good 60 minutes. He worked hard, understands the game well and did well off the ball. He lacked precision with his passing slightly, but overall I am happy."

On Aron Jóhannsson's full debut:
Anthony Ujah: "It was an intensive game for him. He had to sacrifice himself in a more defensive role. I think it well get better. We need to take it each game as it comes"
Viktor Skripnik: "He played because he has made a good impression in training. He put on a good performance today, but in the end he lacked a bit of strength. He was active and worked well with Tony. We want to keep this development going with him"
On Ulisses Garcia's performance:
Viktor Skripnik: "He is still very young, it would be a shock if he didn't make any mistakes. But he didn't beat himself up about it, and he got on with his job straight away. I was pleased with that."
Clemens Fritz: "Ulli is a great lad, both in a sporting and character sense. He has enormous potential and we will have good times together."
