The lessons that have been learned from the Schalke game are at the back of his mind, the plan for the first away game at the forefront. Manager Viktor Skripnik has called for 110% from his team for the match against Berlin on Friday. Fin Bartels (gluteal muscle strain) sat out the last training session on Thursday, but will travel with the squad to Berlin.

The good feeling after pre-season was not dampened by the defeat against the Royal Blues. This was confirmed by Assani Lukimya. "We did not perform as well as we have done in pre-season against Schalke. There were some good parts of the game. We are still confident, and will attack from the first minute against Hertha," explained the Congo player. This attitude is not unique in the Green Whites' camp.

Vestergaard: "We want to play exciting football!"

Aron Jóhannsson und Jannik Vestergaard are not intimidated by their next opposition, Hertha BSC.

His team mate Jannik Vestergaard is up for the fight too. "We respect every team but we're not intimidated by any of them. If we give our all then we have a chance!" The centre half looks back to last season: "We saw in the second half of last season how aggressive we can be. We also showed that we don't need many chances to score goals. We want to embody this very same ruthlessness and general mentality. Put simply, we want to play exciting football!"

Fin Bartels may have to wait. After straining his gluteal muscle on Tuesday, the 28-year-old travelled to Berlin on Thursday afternoon, hoping he will be involved at some point. The game comes too early for Raphael Wolf and Santiago Garcia.

The Green Whites are taking a 19-man squad to Berlin. These players have been named: Zetterer, Wiedwald - Gálvez, Lukimya, Vestergaard, Fritz, Jóhannsson, Öztunali, Junuzovic, Kroos, Zander, U.Garcia, Ujah, Bartels, Gebre Selassie, Grillitsch, Eggestein, Sternberg and Bargfrede.
