A trio of Green-White players made their debut against Schalke in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Werder's left back Ulisses Garcia made his debut in the staring XI and played the full 90 minutes. New signing Aron Jóhannsson made his first appearance from the bench in the 57th minute.

Training pitches six and seven are the epicentre of his footballing world, for that is where Alexander Nouri trains the Green-White reserves. But last Monday the 35-year-old joined the training sessions on the next pitch over - with the first team. This is because Nouri is currently undertaking a traineeship with his colleagues Skripnik, Frings and Kohfeldt. He describes the aims as "dabbling in training sessions and getting to know the procedures". He continues, "of course we have to do an internship report afterwards." Despite his own training sessions, the reserves coach tries to use any free time to drop in. +++

+++ Huge meeting with Nowitzki: Werder's midfield enforcer Felix Kroos was present for the Germany national basketball team's friendly match against Croatia on Sunday afternoon. There the footballer met one of his biggest idols - basketball player Dirk Nowitzki. The 6'1'' Kroos posted a photo on Twitter of himself with the 7'0'' NBA superstar. Kroos' comment was simply: "just great". Teammate Mateo Pavlovic, assistant coach Florian Kohfeldt and board member Willi Lemke also didn't miss out on the occasion which saw the DBB lost 88-60. +++

+++ Gebre Selassie says sorry
: Theodor Gebre Selassie scored the first goal of the season for Werder in the opening match of the Bundesliga on Saturday - unfortunately it was an own goal. Straight after the game the right back apologized on twitter: "I'm very sorry to the team and the fans for what happened today. Unfortunately things like this happen in football... we have to learn and focus on the next game." Head up Theo, it happens. And now it calls for complete concentration on the game against Hertha! +++

+++ Di Santo's official goodbye: Former Werder man Franco di Santo moved this summer to Bundesliga rivals FC Schalke 04. Shortly before the first game of the new Bundesliga season against the Royal Blues on Saturday, the striker officially said goodbye. Sporting director Thomas Eichin presented the Argentine with the traditional photo montage of his time with the Green-Whites. +++
