SV Werder will face 1. FC Köln in the second round of the 2015/16 DFB Cup. The game against fellow Bundesliga opposition will take place in front of home support at the Weser Stadion. The draw was made by German skier Felix Neureuther after the opening game of the 53rd Bundesliga season on Friday evening.
Werder's director of sport, Rouven Schröder, is looking forward to the game against the team from the Rhineland. "That was a really entertaining draw and a good one for us and our fans. We are finally getting a home game in the cup. It will be a footballing party. Skripnik's wish was to get a Bundesliga side, and I am sure that our number 21 is especially looking forward to it. Köln are attractive opponents, and ones that we want to beat to ensure our own progression," says the 39-year-old.
1. FC Köln progressed from the first round with a commanding 4-0 win over Regionalliga side SV Meppen. Peter Stöger's side ended last year's season in twelfth place. The fixtures of the second round of the DFB Cup will take place on either Tuesday, 27th October or Wednesday, 28th October 2015.
