It's been 82 days since SV Werder lined up against Borussia Dortmund on the 34th and final matchday of last season. After a short but restful summer holiday, an intensive pre-season, and a win in the DFB Cup, the serious business begins again on Saturday with the start of the Bundesliga. At 15:30 CEST, Viktor Skripnik's team will face FC Schalke 04 at the Weser-Stadion.
WERDER.DE spoke to some of the first=team players and a rather excited chairman.
Thomas Eichin: "We're looking forward to the game. Pre-season friendlies and competitive matches are two very different things. Schalke have a very strong squad with exceptional quality, as well as a very good manager. We're going to have to give everything we've got in order to win."

Clemens Fritz: "We know that we have worked hard and that we're fit and ready. There were a few new exercises this pre-season that were added in by our fitness coach Jörn Heineke, which weren't very much fun, but we know though that it's necessary. We can't wait for the campaign to finally get going."
Jannik Vestergaard: "We are well prepared for the start of the Bundesliga. We performed well in the pre-season matches, and got through the first round of the DFB Cup. The game admittedly was not the best spectacle, but it was an important victory. We want to start the season concentrated and ideally get three points against Schalke. The team is raring to go after a long pre-season, and can't wait to step out in front of the fans at Weser-Stadion again. Schalke play attacking football, so hopefully this will create space for us."
Aron Jóhannsson: I have heard a lot about the atmosphere at the Weser-Stadion. I'm very excited. It's the first game of the season so both teams will give everything. It will be an extremely interesting and unpredictable game."
Philipp Bargfrede: "I don't think there's a real favourite for this game. Everyone starts with zero points. We are certainly fired up for it."
