The second training camp is over, and the Werder first team are back in Bremen. Manager Viktor Skripnik led his team through two training sessions on Monday, boosted by the return of Jannik Vestergaard after his extended holiday as well as a couple of other players who made their comebacks from injury. In any case, the intensity of training is certainly taking its toll on the players as the session was littered with short breaks.

"My first day back at training felt very good. My fitness is still at a good level because I followed an individual programme on my holidays. However, you can't train football-related movements on the treadmill, and hopefully I'll make up for lost time as quickly as possible," said Vestergaard, who was granted an extended holiday after his participation in the U21 European Championship in the Czech Republic.

Levent Aycicek, Julian von Haacke and Luca Zander, like Vestergaard, were able to take part in both training sessions. Aycicek has got over his calf strain, likewise von Haacke with his thigh problem. Zander picked up a knock on his foot during Werder's recent friendly win over Brünn, but everything "is now okay again", he assured.

Santiago Garcia, Özkan Yildirim, Lukas Fröde and Michael Zetterer, who are all still sidelined through injury, took part in a lighter individual training session whilst the rest of the Green-Whites were on their midday break. The four players are still working towards their comebacks - Fröde, whose broken nose suffered in the 11-0 victory over Neuruppin required surgery, is confident that he will be able to return to action soon. "I've had a mask fitted that protects my nose. Thanks to that, I'm hoping to be able to return to full training very soon. We're taking it day by day at the moment," said the midfielder.

Franco Di Santo, Philipp Bargfrede and Melvyn Lorenzen were also absent from today's training. Bargfrede is being treated for a swollen ankle, Lorenzen is still having some knee problems and striker Di Santo missed training due to muscle pain in his thigh. "It's just a precaution. I think I'll be able to take part in training again tomorrow," said the Argentinean.
