Seven intense days of pre-season training at the Zillertal Alps have now passed for SV Werder. It was the second and last training camp of the summer and while the team laid the foundations in Neuruppin, the Green-Whites "took the next steps" in Austria according to manager Viktor Skripnik, who put extra emphasis on tactics and ball retention.

"Pre-season is always the toughest part of a season," explained Skripnik. "I'm very satisfied with the way everything has been going. The players are reacting superbly to the intensity and everyone is pulling their weight," continued the SVW manager, who once again found perfect conditions in Austria. "We had two very good pitches and our hotel was perfect, with an outstanding wellness area to relax in, and the service was always fantastic." The only bad news of their trip to Tirol were the injuries sustained by Julian von Haacke and Levent Aycicek. "It's unfortunate, but it's part of the pre-season preparations," said Skripnik, who was also forced to do without Felix Kroos (minor foot injury) against FC Brünn.

From a sporting perspective, there's only good news to report. "We took another step in our development. Every player can give 100% for at least 60 minutes now." The friendly victories have certainly contributed to the positive atmosphere: "It makes everyone's job a little easier when we can secure victories in the friendlies, without any preparations and after gruelling days in training," explained a satisfied Bremen manager about his sides victories against RB Salzburg and FC Valencia at the "Audi Quattro Cup", as well as wins over TSV 1860 München, Tirol XI and FC Zbrojovka Brünn.

"Important to have fun as well"

Another key area that was worked on during their training camp was team spirit and the Green-Whites took part in a variety of activities in the Zillertal area. "It's really important to have fun as well in between these tough training sessions. Our teambuilding activities were a great idea," reflected Skripnik on their canyoning, the night at a cabin and the beach volleyball tournament. "They boys all get along well and many of them also spend time together off the pitch. We have a very strong bond in our squad."

The team heads back to Bremen on Saturday night after a very productive stay in Austria. The players will be given Sunday off before they return on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday they have their next friendly match scheduled, as they take on Blumenthaler SV (18:30 CEST). On July 25th the SVW supporters are invited to attend the "Fan Day", which should be a fantastic highlight in SV Werder Bremen's pre-season preparation.
