Welcome back, boys! The Werder first team returned to training at the Weserstadion on Wednesday afternoon after their training camp in Neuruppin came to an end. Especially encouraging was the fact that goalkeepers Raphael Wolf and Michael Zetterer were able to take part in full training after making their comebacks from injury.

Less than 24 hours after a 1-1 draw in their friendly with Hansa Rostock and the subsequent end to their training camp in Neuruppin, head coach Viktor Skripnik led his team back out onto the training field. However, unlike during the clash at the Ostseestadion and the training sessions in Neuruppin, this time Raphael Wolf and Michael Zetterer were also present. Wolf was forced to undergo surgery on a recurring hip problem during the summer break. The goalkeeper declared himself happy after his first full training session of pre-season. "I'm still feeling the effects of the operation a little, but at least there isn't any pain. I can train without any discomfort," said the 27-year-old.

Zetterer is finding his way again too

His goalkeeping companion Michael Zetterer was also forced out after breaking a bone in his left wrist. As a result, he missed the U20 World Cup held in New Zealand at the end of last season. The academy goalkeeper was naturally relieved after his return to training with the first team. "It'll still be a while yet before the injury is completely healed and I can return to full training with the team. In the mean time, my recovery is going very well," said the 19-year-old.

The Werder players will have two training sessions on Thursday morning and evening, as well as taking to the field again on Friday morning. On Saturday, Fritz, Bartels and co. will take place in a pre-season tournament in Salzburg. Thereafter the Green-Whites will travel on to their second training camp in Zillertal.
