Werder today began the first day of training at their new base at Neuruppin, Brandenburg, in bright sunshine and perfect conditions. The Green-Whites took to the field on Thursday afternoon for the first session of their training camp in the city made famous as the birthplace of novelist Theodor Fontane. First impressions? Good weather, an excellent training ground and an outstanding hotel - the writer himself couldn't have thought up a better scene.
Viktor Skripnik was full of praise for the conditions at the training camp. "It's great here. We're very happy. The hotel is excellent, but we're only using it for sleeping and showering. The most important thing is the playing surfaces and they really are fantastic," said the Werder head coach after his team had completed their first training session at the Volkspark Stadium. 328 kilometers separate the Weserstadion in Bremen from the "Resort Mark Brandenburg" hotel where the Green-Whites are staying in Fontanestadt. The team bus left the Weserstadion and headed eastwards on Thursday morning.
Following the completion of the almost-four-hour journey, the team took straight to the field. Training lasted around 90 minutes and took place at the home of MSV Neuruppin, who will take on Werder in the first pre-season friendly of the campaign on Saturday, 4th July at 17:00 CEST. "We're really happy with the physical condition of the entire team. It's obviously very warm, and therefore very tiring. It's a shame that the boys are being forced to toil away slightly, but we want to lay the basis for a good season right here and there are more tough training sessions to come," explained Skripnik.

As well putting in the hours on the training ground, the visit of Werder will bring with it a number of leisure activities around Neuruppin during their stay. Alongside the WERDER Football School that is setting up shop in the city for three days, the Green-White Kid's Club is also visiting Fontanestadt. But it doesn't stop there. On Friday evening, the sponsors of MSV along with Thomas Eichin, Viktor Skripnik and Rouven Schröder will take an exclusive boat trip on the Ruppiner Lake, located directly opposite the team hotel.
Three days later, children from the primary school "Am Weinberg" will have the chance to enjoy a trip in the Werder-Bus - followed by a cool-off in the swimming pool and a trip to the Eiscafe. The Werder first teamers will also be visited on Monday by around 100 workers from the Stephanos Workshops for disabled people. The training camp will conclude with the friendly against Hansa Rostock on Thursday (18:30 CEST).
