At exactly 12:00 on Friday, the German Football League (DFL) released the fixture list for the coming Bundesliga season. The Green-Whites kick off their season at home to FC Schalke 04. At SV Werder, the release of the fixtures was "followed with excitement", according to sporting director Thomas Eichin.
WERDER.DE has summarised the reaction from players and staff.
Thomas Eichin: "We are delighted that we can finally start the season with a home game to ease our way into the normal rhythm of matches. In addition, we have two very exciting opponents in Schalke and Gladbach, the fans will definitely be excited about the start of the new season."

Viktor Skripnik: "We are looking forward to seeing the fans and the great crowd at the Weser Stadion. Obviously we have a very difficult task ahead of us. Schalke will definitely want to start the season well with their new manager.
Clemens Fritz: "It's great to finally start a season with a home game. In the last few years we've had quite a few away trips on the opening day. It would make me even happier if we could start with a win though."
Levent Aycicek: "Against Schalke we will get to see which team is better prepared for the new Bundesliga season. It definitely won't be easy. But we will give everything to get that win on the opening day of the season. We will be pushed to our limits both in Berlin and against Mönchengladbach if we want to take points away from these games. For me personally, I am very excited about the new season!"
Jannik Vestergaard: "It's brilliant to start with a home game. Schalke are a very good opponent. They have a new manager and will definitely want to make a statement. But so do we."
Marco Bode, Chairman of the Supervisory Board: "I'm very happy for the fans that we can start the season at home, as well as being able to welcome two fantastic opponents early on in the season. Our openening fixtures definitely aren't easy, but our goal is to get off to a good start."
