Werder Bremen have completed their Bundesliga coaching team. Jörn Heineke will fill the position of fitness coach in manager Viktor Skripnik's coaching team at the start of pre-season training.
"Our goal was to fill this important position with another highly-qualified coach following the departure of Reinhard Schnittker. Jörn Heineke fulfils all of our requirements. He has a terrific sports-science background, was a footballer himself and has worked in the fitness department for many years. We are sure that he will perfectly complement our coaching team," explained sporting director Thomas Eichin.
Jörn Heineke, who was born and raised close to Bremen, has now come full circle at Werder following his appointment: "It's kind of like a homecoming. I was handed my first sniff of the big footballing world with Werder. That's why I'm looking forward all the more of becoming a part of Werder Bremen again. An exciting and very interesting task awaits me."
Jörn Heineke played for SV Werder Bremen at U19 level. The now 40-year-old went on to play for SC Preußen Münster in the Regionalliga after several spells in the Oberliga and Landesliga, and gained international experience by featuring for Australian side Richmond SC. Parallel to his footballing career, Jörn Heineke studied sports science at the German Sports University in Köln and subsequently took courses on personal training, TRX and CrossFit training, and now runs his own CrossFit studio in Bremen.
