Marcel Hilßner will continue to represent Werder. The 20-year-old midfielder has signed a professional deal which will keep him at the club until the end of June 2016.
"Marcel showed in the second half of the season that he is a leading player at U23 level. He played a big part in our promotion to the third-division. We're delighted that he has committed to the club for the coming season," explained Tim Borowski.
Rouven Schröder is also glad that the player has stayed and will keep an eye on his progress: "Marcel developed a lot last season, however, he's not there yet. He will now be playing at a higher level which will hopefully prepare him for Bundesliga football."
Marcel Hilßner is looking forward to playing in the third-tier. "Our promotion played a key role in my decision to stay here. It will be a new experience for me. I'm looking forward to staying at the club and I hope to be able to step up to the first team in the future."
Marcel Hilßner joined Werder in 2009 from FC Sachsen Leipzig. The youngster has made 51 appearances for the U23s and has scored 12 times.
