Werder captain Clemens Fritz was unable to take part in training on Thursday afternoon due to a calf injury. The 34-year-old won't be able to feature in the last home game of the current Bundesliga season against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

Long-term absentees Alejandro Gálvez, Santiago Garcia and Özkan Yildirim were also missing from training. Melvyn Lorenzen completed an individual session on Thursday. On the other hand, both Felix Kroos (broken rib) and Luca Caldirola (foot problem) have returned to full team training this week, completing all of Wednesday and Thursday's sessions.
