Central defender Sebastian Prödl will leave Bremen at the end of the season. His current contract expires at the end of the campaign and won't be renewing it. The Austrian has been at the club for seven years. "I have had a fantastic time at Bremen and would like to thank the team from the bottom of my heart, but I would like a new challenge next season," he said on Tuesday afternoon.
Prödl joined Werder in 2008 from SK Sturm Graz and has made 174 competitive appearances for the club. The Austrian international has scored 10 times in 147 Bundesliga games as well as making six assists. He helped Bremen lift the DFB Cup in 2009. Prödl, Koen Casteels and Davie Selke will play their final home match for the club this weekend.
